Ilocos Norte :The Kapurpurawan Rock Formation

Kapurpurwan came from the word "furaw" or "puraw" which means white. On our way to the site, we had to endure a 15 minute bumpy ride and a 10 minute walk from the main drop off point.

Target locked
Several cars were parked beside what looks like a picnic hut/shanty/resting area. This is where the caretakers stay while selling drinks, snacks and souvenirs .They also have umbrellas for rent.A quick descent along the rugged hill, surrounded by small puddles of water, one has to maintain balance in trudging through the unique rocky terrain enroute Kapurpurawan.

Unlike before, the authorities have made efforts in preserving this natural phenomenon by only allowing visitors up to a certain point.

But do not fret! Kuya Arnel brought us to the other side of the rock formation where tourists are allowed to touch and take pictures.

The sand slowly dissipates with wind, water and if it is touched. It feels great to be able to marvel at this magnificent creation, knowing that one day, it'll return to its original state (and I can't wait for another gazillion years to see another one).

One of the reasons why I travel is to meet genuine people. And most would say, "Its part of their job to bring you there" or "They're getting paid to do that" or "They do this everyday", I just appreciate Kuya Arnel for guiding us towards Kapurpurawan under the scorching heat of the   sun.Basta.

We slowly trekked uphill ( hirap na hirap lang LOL ) with our wanderlust satisfied. It was past lunch time and it was time to fill our bellies.

Kuya Arnel : "Malapit sa lighthouse, may carinderia.Ok lang po ba doon?"
(Si Kuya Arnel talaga.Mukha siguro akong maarte.Hinde.Baka polite lang talaga siya.Lol)
Me: "Kuya ok lang kahit saan basta hindi corned beef ang ulam." ;))

  1. Such a beautiful place. I need to visit Ilocos Norte again. It's been a long time since I last went there.

  2. The rock was one of the shoot location of the local romance movie, Suddenly Its Magic. I think sunset time is the best time to visit this rock formation. I looks so picture perfect for photoshoots.
